A Legacy of Excellence

Since 2007, Antica Masseria 'A Canc'llera has been producing wines of exceptional quality. But our story begins long before—the Lavorgna family has been crafting wines for over four generations, following the agricultural traditions of Southern Italy.

What started as grape suppliers to regional cooperatives evolved into a commitment to produce our own wines. Today, we control every step of the process, from vineyard management to bottling, ensuring that each bottle reflects our dedication to excellence.

Our philosophy is simple: "Our work is reduced to a bottle of wine—your palate will tell its story."

Lavorgna family history
Telesina Valley vineyard

Terroir of Sannio

Our winery is located on the fertile marl-clay hills of the Telesina Valley, nestled between Monte Acero and Monte Erbano in San Lorenzello—a region renowned for its ceramics and authentic traditions.

This unique terroir, combined with our sustainable vineyard management practices, creates wines with distinctive character and complexity. The valley's microclimate and soil composition contribute to the exceptional quality of our grapes.

Approximately 80% of our vineyards surround our house-cantina, while 20% are located on the Telese Terme plains. This diverse geography allows us to produce wines with varied expressions.

The Name 'A Canc'llera

The name carries deep historical roots. It derives from Maria Giuseppa Aulino, grandmother of Italo Lavorgna, who founded the ancient masseria in the Cancello Massone area. The identification in dialect form—Maria Giuseppa 'A Canc'llera—became the name of our property: the Masseria of 'A Canc'llera.

This name honors our family's heritage and connects us to generations of agricultural tradition in this region.

Sustainability & Quality

Caring for our land and future generations

Integrated Vineyard Management

Our vineyards are managed with non-invasive treatments following the "Piano di Lotta e Difesa Integrata" (Integrated Defense and Fight Plan) established by the Campania Region. We particularly favor the use of Zeolite for natural pest management.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

We use lightweight glass bottles to reduce CO2 emissions, plant-based cork (Nomacorc) closures, and packaging made entirely from recycled paper. Every detail matters in our commitment to sustainability.

Native Grape Varieties

We celebrate indigenous varieties like Barbera del Sannio, Coda di Volpe, and the historic Agostinella—a variety nearly extinct that we're helping to preserve for future generations.

Our Production Philosophy

Before 2007, our company produced approximately 1,000 quintals of grapes annually for regional cooperatives. After establishing Antica Masseria 'A Canc'llera, we made a deliberate choice: quality over quantity.

With new plantings and sustainable vineyard management practices, our production decreased to approximately 10,000 bottles annually—a reduction of nearly 70%. This lower yield allows us to focus on producing wines of exceptional quality.

Each bottle represents our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and respect for the land. We believe that great wine cannot be rushed—it requires patience, care, and unwavering dedication to quality.
